Impact Test Experiment
Procedure
- Measure the dimensions of the specimen, including the dimensions of the notch.
- Raise the hammer and note the initial reading on the dial, which represents the initial energy of the pendulum before fracturing the specimen.
- Place the specimen in the testing machine and ensure that it is centered with respect to the hammer. Check the position of the notch.
- Release the hammer and note the final dial reading. The difference between the initial and final readings gives the energy required to fracture the specimen.
- Calculate the energy of rupture of the specimen.
Virtual Procedure
- Start the experiment by clicking the Play button.
- Observe the impact of the moving hammer on the test specimen.
- Observe the specimen breaking into two pieces and the corresponding loss of energy.
- Observe the observation table showing the results of different trials. The mean energy required for fracture of the specimen is calculated.
- Use the Pause, Play, and Restart controls to view the simulation at different stages.
