Visual Search - Singleton & Conjunctive
Procedure
Step 1: Starting the Experiment
- Open the experiment interface in your browser.
- Click the Start button to begin the experiment.
- Read the instructions on the screen carefully to understand the task requirements.
Step 2: Randomized Trials
- Trials will consist of two search types:
- Singleton Search: The target (upright orange "T") differs from the distractors by one feature (e.g., color).
- Conjunctive Search: The target (upright orange "T") differs from distractors by two features (e.g., color and orientation).
- Trials will appear in a random order to avoid predictability.
- Observe the search display carefully as it appears on the screen.
- Locate the target object:
- The target is always an upright orange "T".
- Once you spot the target, press the Spacebar as quickly as possible to indicate its presence within 5 secs.
- Note: If you don't see the target, do not press the Spacebar for 5 seconds, and the trial will automatically end.
Step 4: Varying Set Sizes
- The number of objects (set size) will vary during the experiment to increase difficulty.
- Set sizes will incrementally increase (e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20 objects).
- Pay attention to the increasing challenge as the set size grows.
Step 5: Data Collection
- For each trial, the following data will be recorded:
- Trial Type: Singleton or Conjunctive search.
- Set Size: Number of objects displayed.
- Response Time: Time taken to press the spacebar after the display appears.
- Accuracy: Whether the target was correctly identified.
Step 6: Completing the Experiment
- Continue performing trials until all randomized trials are completed.
- The experiment will automatically stop after the predefined number of trials.
- At the end of the experiment, your performance results will be displayed:
- Average search time for Singleton and Conjunctive trials.
- Overall accuracy across all trials.
