Torsional oscillations in different liquids
Assignment
1) Select Copper wire, Cylinder as the object, and fix the following parameters:
- Mass = 5 kg
- Length = 10 cm
- Amplitude = 50
Change the Medium: Air, Water, Oil
2) Prepare a Comparative Table and Discuss:
- How the medium affects the torsional oscillation period.
- Which medium shows the greatest damping effect, and why?
3) Compare Objects (Keeping All Other Parameters Constant)
- String: Copper
- Medium: Air
- Mass: 5 kg
- Amplitude: 50
- Length: 10 cm
4) Choose the three different objects from the simulator:
- Cylinder
- Disc
- Dumbbell
For each object, perform the following:
- Note the Moment of Inertia (I) displayed.
- Record the Time Period (T) of oscillation.
- Plot a graph of Time Period (T) vs. Moment of Inertia (I).
- Interpret the relationship between moment of inertia and period of oscillation. Does it align with the theoretical model? Justify.
5) Rigidity Modulus Calculation
- Use the simulator to find values for:
- String length (l)
- Radius (r)
- Moment of Inertia (I)
- Time Period (T)
