Assignment

1) Select Copper wire, Cylinder as the object, and fix the following parameters:

  • Mass = 5 kg
  • Length = 10 cm
  • Amplitude = 50

Change the Medium: Air, Water, Oil

2) Prepare a Comparative Table and Discuss:

  1. How the medium affects the torsional oscillation period.
  2. Which medium shows the greatest damping effect, and why?

3) Compare Objects (Keeping All Other Parameters Constant)

  • String: Copper
  • Medium: Air
  • Mass: 5 kg
  • Amplitude: 50
  • Length: 10 cm

4) Choose the three different objects from the simulator:

  • Cylinder
  • Disc
  • Dumbbell

For each object, perform the following:

  1. Note the Moment of Inertia (I) displayed.
  2. Record the Time Period (T) of oscillation.
  3. Plot a graph of Time Period (T) vs. Moment of Inertia (I).
  4. Interpret the relationship between moment of inertia and period of oscillation. Does it align with the theoretical model? Justify.

  1. Use the simulator to find values for:
    • String length (l)
    • Radius (r)
    • Moment of Inertia (I)
    • Time Period (T)
