Soundness of Cement

Step 1: Weighing of Cement

• Click on the weighing plate to place it on the weighing machine.

• Click on tare to set the reading to zero.
procedure
• Using a spatula, accurately weigh 200 g of cement.
procedure
• Click on Next to proceed.

Step 2: Weighing of Water

• Click on the beaker to place it on the weighing machine.
procedure
• Click on the Tare button to measure its weight.
procedure
• Click on the measuring cylinder and weigh water equal to 0.78P × weight of cement.
procedure
• After measuring the required quantity of water, click on Next.

Step 3: Preparation of Cement Paste

• Click on the beaker to add water to the cement.

• Click on the spatula and mix thoroughly to obtain a uniform and homogeneous paste.
procedure
• After proper mixing, click on Next.

Step 4: Filling the Le Chatelier’s Mould

• Click on the brush and apply a thin layer of oil to the inner surface of the mould.

• Click on the glass plate and place the mould apparatus on it.
procedure
• Using a spatula, fill the mould completely with the prepared cement paste.
procedure
• Click on the apparatus to spread the paste evenly.
procedure
• Place another glass plate on top of the mould.
procedure

• Click on the weight and place it over the glass plate to apply uniform pressure.
procedure
• Click on Next.

Step 5: Immersion in Water

• Click on the Le Chatelier’s apparatus to immerse the complete assembly in the water tank.

• After 24 hours, click on the apparatus to remove it from the water.
procedure
• Click on the scale to measure the distance between the two indicator points of the mould.
procedure
• Click on Next.

Step 6: Boiling and Final Measurement

• Click on the setup to place the mould assembly into boiling water.

• After boiling, click on the scale and measure the distance between the two indicator points again.

Finally, click on Post Test to evaluate your understanding of the experiment.
