Procedure

These procedure steps will be followed on the simulator.

1. Open the Double Ring Infiltrometer Test and hover over the description to read the definition. Click on the arrow at the bottom-right corner to proceed to the next step.

2. Select one of the given field options and click the arrow at the bottom-right corner to continue.

3. Click on the inner ring to place it on the selected field.

4. Click on the driving plate to place it over the inner ring.

5. Click on the hand icon to hammer the inner ring into the soil using the driving plate.

6. Click on the driving plate to remove it from the top of the inner ring.

7. Answer the pop-up question by selecting the correct option.

8. Click on the arrow at the bottom-right corner to proceed to the next step.

9. Click on the outer ring to place it around the inner ring.

10. Click on the driving plate to place it over the outer ring.

11. Click on the hand icon to hammer the outer ring into the soil using the driving plate.

12. Click on the driving plate to remove it from the top of the outer ring.

13. Click on the arrow at the bottom-right corner to proceed to the next step.

14. Click on the plate to place it onto the water level indicator.

15. Click on the water level indicator to place it at the center of the inner ring of the double ring infiltrometer.

    

16. Click on the arrow at the bottom-right corner to proceed.

    

17. Click on the bucket to pour water into both rings.

    

18. Answer the pop-up question by selecting the correct option.

    

19. Click on the arrow at the bottom-right corner to proceed.

    

20. Click on the stopwatch to start the timer. Water begins to infiltrate into the soil.

    

21. Click on the bucket to refill the infiltrometer rings and note down the readings.

    

22. Click on the arrow at the bottom-right corner to proceed to the observation table.

    

23. Using the observations and the given equations, calculate the infiltration rate and cumulative infiltration. Enter the values in the table and click on the CHECK button to verify the results.

24. Enter the average and accumulated infiltration depth values, then click on the CHECK button. Verify the results by clicking on the RESULTS button.

    

25. Finally, hover over the inference of the experiment and reload the page to repeat the experiment by selecting another field option.
