Cornu's Method

Assignment

  1. Determine the Young’s modulus of the given Perspex bar by Cornu’s method using a lens of radius of curvature 200 cm. Given: breadth b = 3 cm; thickness d = 3 mm; distance between mass-loaded knife edge and support L = 10 cm.
  2. Determine Poisson’s ratio of a Perspex bar of breadth 2 cm and thickness 3 mm by Cornu’s method. Assume L = 10 cm.
  3. Determine the longitudinal radius of curvature produced by loading a weight of 100 g on both sides of the given bar. Given: breadth 4 cm, thickness 3 mm, and L = 10 cm.
  4. Determine the bulk modulus of a Perspex bar of breadth 3 cm and thickness 4 mm using Cornu’s method by loading 100 g. (Given L = 15 cm.)
  5. Determine the bulk modulus of a Perspex bar of breadth 2 cm and thickness 4 mm using Cornu’s method by loading 200 g. (Given L = 15 cm.)
