Human Respiratory System

Respiration is the process by which oxygen is taken in and carbon dioxide is given out. The first breath occurs after birth; fetal lungs are non-functional and gas exchange occurs via the placenta.

1) External respiration: exchange between lungs and blood.
2) Internal respiration: exchange between blood and tissues.
  • PHASES OF RESPIRATION
1) Inspiration: air enters lungs.
2) Expiration: air leaves lungs.
